WINK UP May 2008
What is the creepiest thing that you have seen an Arashi member do recently?
Aiba- If we're in a restaurant, recently, Matsujun has began to clean up after all of the other members. If he was next to the person, maybe that wouldn't be so weird, but the other night Leader was eating on the opposite side and got some crumbs on his place, and Matsujun got up to go sweep them off! It was really strange! I wanted to say 'Matsujun, Leader can do it himself,' but actually, it didn't look like Leader was going to do it!
Ohno-Actually, three days ago, I left after rehearsal to buy some cakes to eat with my mother, because we were going to have a nice afternoon together. After I came out of the shop, I was walking, and Nino was following me! I don't know why he was following me, so it was really strange. I was so surprised! I thought maybe he wanted to talk to me, or I had forgotten something, but he turned around and walked away. It was definitely creepy.
The Interview
"In the May issue of Wink Up, Ohno mentioned that Ninomiya-kun had been following him. Ninomiya-kun, was there an explanation for your strange behavior?" Nino, who hadn't read the article, stared at Nakai for a moment, and then shot Ohno a glance to see how he was reacting.
"Well, Leader had been behaving very strangely! He left rehearsal without talking to anyone, and he had seemed distracted the whole day. It was very suspicious. And when I followed him, he bought cakes! Why would anyone leave early to buy cake? Cake shops don't close early!"
"Ah, so Ohno's behavior was clearly suspicious. Ohno, what do you think about this?" Ohno looked up, attempting to keep a straight face.
"Next time, I'll follow Nakai." Nakai jumped up, and Ohno raced to a convenient corner while the others pretended to hold Nakai off.
"I'll have you know there are a lot of people who have followed me! I am a very popular idol, you know! Girls follow me everywhere!" Everyone was already heading back to their seats. "And it's always girls, you know! Never guys!"
"Sorry, sorry, Nakai-san."
"You shouldn't treat your sempai like that! You should be respectful!"
"Of course. It won't happen again."
What Happened That Day
As Ohno exited the cake shop, a small, pink box dangling from his left hand, Nino ducked into a nearby alley.
Ohno had been behaving strangely lately. He had been in a hurry to get out of rehearsal, and hadn't even said more than goodbye to Nino on his way out. The day before, he had been filled with a sort of nervous energy, as though he was both anticipating and dreading something.
Nino really, really wanted to know what that something was.
Thus, the stalking. Ohno turned right, and came to a sudden stop. Nino abruptly busied himself with a magazine in front of the Lawson's he was next to. He found himself looking at Ohno again, though, because the magazine had apparently interviewed him about a play he was to take part in. Nino blinked, and risked a glance in Ohno's direction. Ohno had fished out his phone from his bag, and was in the process of dialing a number. Nino, who wasn't really all that far away, set the magazine down and crept just close enough to be within earshot.
"Kaachan?" Well, that wasn't very exciting. He was talking to his mother.
"I just bought the cakes. You were right about that shop. Everything looked seriously delicious. I had a hard time deciding." He cocked his head to the side, and Nino was struck with the thought that he really looked like he wanted to have his ear scratched, like some sort of big fluffy cat. "Cheesecake and tiramisu. Ahh. I'll be home within the hour. I'm on my way now." Ohno made a face, but suddenly seemed a bit more serious.
"Of course. I'll tell you everything. Okay. Bye." Ohno hung up and ran a hand through his hair warily. It was at that moment that he turned around, as though his Nino senses had suddenly tingled. Nino's eyes widened, and he turned around on his heel and walked quickly away.
Nino was suddenly not looking forward to rehearsal the next day at all.
A Nice Afternoon with Kaachan
When Ohno found his mother, she was setting out two places for tea. He walked up behind her and tucked his chin into the place where her shoulder and neck met.
"Kaachan, you know I love you, right? I love you lots and lots." His mother disentangled herself from him and turned around, hands on her hips, expression stern.
"Satoshi, what did you do? You didn't do anything illegal, did you? You didn't rob a bank or anything?" Ohno smiled and held out the box that held the cakes he had purchased. His mother took the box and went about setting the table while he fidgeted nervously. He was completely out of his comfort zone, and comfort was something that was very, very important to him.
The moment of reckoning was near. He really, really couldn't bear the idea of having upset his mother, but they were so close that he knew that she deserved to know. She really deserved to know the son who loved her so much, who she loved so much, no matter what she might think about the knowledge he would impart.
His mother didn't take terribly long to arrange everything, and all too soon, he found himself seated across from his mother, an expectant expression on her face. He took a deep breath, and went for it.
"Kaachan, I don't like girls." His mother smiled her normal, every day, I-adore-my-son smile.
"I know, dear."
"I don't think you understand. I like boys." Despite how nervous the conversation was making him, Ohno had already devoured his cake. It was seriously delicious, and food helped with everything.
"I understand perfectly, darling. I am your mother, after all." Ohno bit his lip. He really was going to have to say it, then.
"Kaachan. I'm gay."
"Well, I'm sure Nino-kun would be very upset if you weren't." His mother's smile grew warmer yet, and she reached across the table to pour more tea into his cup. Ohno stared at her blankly.
"You are seeing Nino-kun, aren't you?" She pursed her lips. "Satoshi, you look like you're impersonating a fish. Stop that and have a pleasant chat with your mother like you promised."
"Kaachan!" Ohno snapped his mouth shut.
"Well, if you aren't, then you should be. I thought you'd been together for years!" His mother, he noticed, looked distinctly disappointed with the idea that he wasn't dating Nino. However--
"I didn't even say I liked him!"
"I'm Kaachan, Satoshi. I know everything." Suddenly, his mother's warm smile turned into a shark's grin that was reminiscent of the one Nino often wore. "Stay away from that Matsujun, though. He's bad news." There really wasn't an appropriate response to something like that besides a gurgle that sounded something like 'aldkjfl;s'.
"Aldkjfl;s"
"I've seen how he looks at you, and boys like that are only after one thing. Now, Nino-kun, he'll make an honest boy of you, but you keep your head on around that Matsujun, no matter how pretty he may be."
"Kaachan, I don't really think Jun has those sorts of intentions."
"You know that I thoroughly approve of Nino-kun, and that's about all you need to know, I think. Just make sure you're not trapped with Matsumoto-kun in any sort of compromising situation. And don't undress alone with him. That would just be asking for trouble."
"Well, I'm glad you took that so well."
"Never mind that, Satoshi. Just make sure you bring Nino-kun around for dinner tomorrow night. I've been dying to play some classic Street Fighter for a while, and I can't be expected play with you. Tell Nino-kun that I'm looking forward to crushing him."
Ohno really, really loved his mother.
An Evening in the Ohno Household
Ohno sat between his mother and Nino on the carpet, not drawing for once. Rather, he was staring into nothing. Nino waved a hand in front of his face while he waited for the game to load. He was used to Ohno being spacey, but it looked like he was sleeping with his eyes open. He was even drooling. When Ohno didn't react to the hand in front of his eyes, he wiped the bit of drool from the corner of his mouth and turned back to Street Fighter just as it finished loading. He was using Skullomania, and there was no way Ohno's mother could beat Skullomania with Chun Li.
"You're so sweet to my son, Nino-kun." Damn. She landed a kick as he was momentarily distracted by the comment. Ohno stirred enough to shoot his mother a warning look. "Don't you look at me like that, young man."
"Don't think you can beat me so easily!" Nino couldn't help but be pleased. Ohno's mom was awesome, after all. It made him wonder, though, if she knew some things that he hadn't actually said. He wasn't sure whether this pleased him as well, or if it just disturbed him. Skullomania managed to defeat Chun Li easily, and Ohno's mother turned to look him in the eye.
"You are, of course, staying over tonight, Nino-kun."
"Of course. Like I want to bother going home this late. Plus, that gives me longer to kick your ass."
"You ought to watch what you say to those older than you, Nino-kun." Her smile and her words didn't match at all, and besides, Nino hadn't said anything out of the ordinary. "Seriously, though. You take good care of my son. He's so spacey sometimes that I wonder about him. It's good that he has someone like you around to depend on."
"Kaachaaaan." Ohno stuck his lower lip out at his mother.
"Well, Ohno does tend to need a lot of looking after. He'd probably never make it on-stage or to photo shoots without being reminded." Nino brought a hand to rest in Ohno's hair and scritched behind his left ear. His mother beamed approvingly, and Nino thought that he must be doing something right.
Wherein Kaachan Struggles Valiantly for a Righteous Cause
"Satoshi, have you confessed to Nino-kun yet?" Ohno looked up from his rice, which he had been focusing intently on, to stare blankly at his mom. "I'm just saying, you'd do best to do it a soon as possible. Nino-kun can't be expected to wait for you forever."
"Kaachan, I really don't want to talk about this. Could you pass the gyoza?"
"Honey, make sure to confess to Nino-kun today at work, okay?" Ohno didn't even bother to act surprised. He was already going to be late, and his mother's shock appeal wore off after a while.
"Kaachan, have you seen my umbrella?" His mother held out the umbrella, and as Ohno reached out to grab it, and she pulled it away.
"I'll give you the umbrella if you promise to confess to Nino-kun."
"Kaachan..."
"Okay, fine then." She handed him the umbrella, and Ohno couldn't help but feel a bit bad for upsetting his mother, no matter how scheming and devious she was being.
"Dear, could you pass me the shouyu? And could you confess to Nino-kun?" Ohno passed his mother the soy sauce wordlessly and continued to eat his tempura with more focus than was really necessary.
"I know it's not shabu-shabu season yet, but I made it to make you happy. And to convince you to confess to Nino-kun. Because I am your mother." Ohno dipped the meat in the water and decided that something had to be done.
"Okay, Kaachan. I'll confess tomorrow." Ohno thought that maybe his mother would be shocked, or at least a little surprised, but she simply beamed at him approvingly.
"That's my good boy."
Ohno's Big Confession
Nino was occupied with some game or other when Ohno entered the dressing room to prepare for rehearsal. He could never keep what any of Nino's games were straight, so he didn't even bother any more. He flopped down next to him on the couch and put his head in Nino's lap, who absent-mindedly reached down to pat his hair.
"Ne, Nino." Ohno was fiddling with a bit of fuzz on Nino's sweater with much more concentration than was really healthy for someone like him.
"Hmm?"
"Kaachan says we have to talk. And I think she might be right. Or at least I know she'll stop bugging me about it if I tell you." Nino was making his way to the end of the fifth level, and he knew that there was a boss coming up next because he was re-playing one of his favorites.
"Oh? Okay, then." It couldn't be anything too important. He could play and still concentrate on Ohno at the same time.
"Well, I'm supposed to confess to you. So...I like you." Nino's fingers suddenly stopped moving over the buttons, and he looked straight up, and then down at Ohno. The game fell from his fingers to the floor with a clatter, and he winced when he realized that he had dropped it. That was an expensive game and...never mind. One thing at a time.
"Seriously?" Nino's eyes widened as he began to comprehend what was actually being said. "You seriously like me?" Ohno just looked at him.
"Well, I thought you knew. I wasn't exactly subtle." Nino smiled, and the corners of his eyes crinkled in a way that Ohno loved, and he suddenly had the urge to trace the lines at the corners with his fingers, to feel the texture and learn it for future reference.
Before he had the chance, however, Nino was leaning down in order to find the best angle to kiss him. The press of his lips against Ohno's was light, brief, and a bit dry.
Nino thought that maybe it was his best kiss to date.
In Which Nino Remembers His Manners
When Ohno's mother went out to check the mail, she was mildly surprised to find a copy of Tekken in the box. She had a good idea who had put there, and the attached card only confirmed it.
Kaachan,
Thank you for raising Ohno Satoshi to be the person he is now, and for giving us your blessing. In thanks, I plan to kick your ass at Tekken at least as often as I kicked your ass at Street Fighter.
I'll see you at dinner tonight,
Nino

"Well, I'm sure Nino-kun would be very upset if you weren't." His mother's smile grew warmer yet...
I couldn't stop laughing. And she warned him to keep away from Matsujun?!
She's so cute!
I can imagine Oh-chan's mother having a personality like that.
