Summary: Sometimes friends just know, even if you don’t tell them.
Author’s Note: Posted for Ohno's birthday last year originally, and now here. :D This is my first Ohmiya fic, and it might come off as cheesy and corny and whatnot. (You have been warned. XD) Self-betaed. Also, you have to take note that I was feeling a lot like the Neen when I wrote this, so. Enjoy? :D?


He felt stupid.

For the first time in years, Nino actually felt stupid in front of someone he loved. It’s not that it never happened, but… Nino had never surrendered his entire self to emotions this much before, yet he failed miserably at getting what he had wanted.

He went home that night, opening the front door of their house and seeing that the lights were already turned off. “Tadaima…”

No one answered. “Kaachan must already be asleep,” he muttered to himself as he plopped on the sofa. He wasn’t in the mood to go and walk further into his own room for some reason. He felt like those extra steps would lead him nowhere—those extra efforts in vain—much like how he struggled in making someone special to him love him back.

He finally brought out his DS and turned it on. Nothing was more relaxing than hearing those elementary noises echoing from that little device. It made him smile a bit.

“Kazu-chan?”

Nino pressed Pause and looked around. The room was already dark, and he wasn’t sure if he was just hearing things. He pressed Pause again.

“Kazu-chan?”

Then someone suddenly emerged out of his room. Nino couldn’t see who it was, but he could somehow make out its shadow. He then realized it was already midnight when he went home; he must’ve probably woken up his sister, or worse, his mom.

“Kaachan, I’m so sorry if I woke you up but I’m not really making too much noise here…”

He then looked up and saw those familiar sleepy eyes. He became surprised at the sight.

“O-Ohno?” Nino jumped a little on his seat. “W-What are you doing here?”

Ohno was simply rubbing his eyes; obviously he had just woken up. “Your mom,” he said naively, as if it was just natural for him to have a sleepover at someone else’s house.

Then again Nino wasn’t just “someone else.”

“Eh? Nande?” He only stared at the older boy, bewildered. “I didn’t ask her. And she didn’t tell me either.”

Ohno lazily dropped on the sofa next to Nino. After yawning (which Nino watched carefully), he spoke, “I asked her.”

Nino’s eyes widened. Chuckling, he replied, almost sarcastically, “Really? That’s so big of you, Ohno-san. And exactly why did you volunteer to have a sleepover at my house?”

“Because you needed company,” Ohno then stared at those brown eyes. Ohno had to admit, Nino had a uniquely beautiful pair.

Nino only managed a blink. He didn’t know Ohno could read him like that.

Looking at the floor, he continued, “Two weeks ago, you told me about this girl. I know you like her so much, because you actually told me about her. I was surprised, but happy nevertheless; at least you were comfortable talking with me about her. And you talk about your personal life pretty seldom.”

Ohno paused, possibly waiting for a snarky retort from his friend. When he heard none, “And yesterday, you suddenly fell silent.”

“Yeah right,” Nino scoffed, subtly sounding bitter. As much as he could cover up his sadness and he could lie about everything, he was surprised (again) to learn that his dear Leader actually paid attention. He thought he was the only one who did that.

“It’s amazing how you figured that out,” Nino meant it this time.

“Well,” Ohno started to rub the back of his neck—like he usually did when he’s embarrassed or when he’s being praised—chuckling as he did so. “It’s true though; I noticed it.”

“Of course you did,” Nino stared at the darkness, away from Ohno, probably holding back something. Maybe tears.

Ohno couldn’t help but put his arms around the younger boy. Good thing he knew just when Nino would need him the most. “Perhaps it’s not the right time, Nino.”

Nino was still silent. He wasn’t crying—Ohno listened to the silence well—but nothing had confirmed that he wasn’t about to either.

Ohno knew perfectly well that Nino wouldn’t think so, but he figured he should be honest. “And maybe she’s not the right one either.”

Ohno hadn’t dared to be too obvious, but Arashi’s Leader actually wanted to tell him how much he thought that any girl who would reject his beloved Kazu-chan should never be forgiven; never indeed.

“You’re not exactly helping you know,” Nino still managed to snort, surprisingly. “Ahhh~ I guess I should sleep this off, ne, Riida?”

Nino stood up, only to be pulled back down by Ohno again.

“Nandayo—?!”

Ohno grabbed Nino by the arms and put his arms around Nino’s small frame. He couldn’t bear his friend feeling like this.

“E-Eh?” was Nino could only manage to say.

“Cry if you want to; no one else would know,” Ohno said, tightening his embrace.

“D-Demo…”

“Don’t be ridiculous. Just do it.”

The next day, Arashi had their weekly recording for a variety show. Everything seemed normal for Ohno and Nino; no one exactly knew what happened the night before. As Ohno exactly said, no one even knew if Nino cried that night or if he didn’t. But one thing’s for sure: Ohno knew everything about his friend, no matter what happened.
